WoW Forever Beginner Guide

To start WoW Forever, select the correct version in Battle.net, agree on faction and ruleset with friends, then choose a legal race and class. Use the first session to learn a safe combat routine before planning a full-level build.

How do I start in WoW Forever?

  1. Confirm the installation you are opening

Choose World of Warcraft, select Forever in the version menu and check the intended WoW account. Finish its update before troubleshooting a game that is not yet ready to launch.

  2. Turn a preferred group job into a shortlist

Choose tank, healer, melee or ranged damage before comparing classes. Then check the race matrix for your faction. A class can offer several jobs, but a new character still needs a specific plan.

  3. Plan the next useful milestone

Use your actual level in the talent planner. Read the unlock condition and the class guide's next stage rather than copying a level-60 plan into the first hours.

Worked examples

You want a Horde Paladin to join friends using Normal.

Undead Paladin is a legal Horde choice; your friends also need Horde and Normal.

This checks character compatibility, not a claim that the race is strongest. Choose the activity and talent path afterwards.

A character is level 20 and has no modeled Legacy Talented benefit.

The standard reference budget is 11 talent points.

One point is granted per level from 10 through 20 in this export. The planner explains row and prerequisite rules; it does not guarantee a fastest route.

Make the first session teach one repeatable routine

Before pulling several enemies, learn how your class begins a fight, spends its main resource and recovers afterwards. Read a new ability's tooltip when you train it and put frequently used actions where you can reach them comfortably. A routine you can repeat is more useful than a long list of abilities you cannot yet identify.

After a difficult fight, change one variable at a time: how many enemies you pull, how much room you leave to move, when you recover resources or whether you ask for help. A tier letter does not remove the need to notice enemy level, equipment condition and your remaining health.

Avoid expensive-looking decisions before you know the problem

Keep recovery supplies and room in your bags, repair equipment and read the actual attributes and weapon requirements of a reward. Item quality alone does not say whether it suits your class. When a quest feels too hard, compare its level and objectives before treating the class as broken.

Classic and Enhanced are presentation starting points, not different progression paths or rulesets. Adjust individual controls and interface settings as you learn. If your friends cannot invite you, verify faction and ruleset first; changing the visual preset will not change those grouping boundaries.

Start

  1. Choose the correct game version

Use Battle.net and select World of Warcraft: Forever. Check the current system requirements before installation.

Open the official setup guide rather than a third-party download.

  2. Set the group boundary first

Characters need the same faction and ruleset to form the usual groups, guilds, dungeons and raids.

Write down the two choices in the group's chat before anyone commits.

  3. Pick a comfortable presentation

Classic and Enhanced are initial interface and visual presets. Their settings can be adjusted later; they are separate from rulesets.

Read tooltips and bind the buttons you use often where they are easy to reach.

  4. Choose an ordinary job, not only a top letter

Decide whether you want damage, healing, tanking or flexibility. A class comparison is most useful after that choice.

Compare two candidates in the same activity, including what each asks you to manage.

  5. Check the faction-specific matrix

Use the legal combination table before planning racials. The two Skyborne factions do not offer the same class list.

Pick the side your friends use, then choose a race you will enjoy seeing for a long journey.

  6. Build a repeatable first-session loop

Train new abilities, inspect gear tooltips and keep recovery supplies. Learn a safe pull size before deliberately taking several enemies.

After a failed pull, change one thing: route, distance, resource timing or group size.

  7. Spend points with an explanation

Talents start at level 10. Check row gates and prerequisites, and save the build with its data version.

Follow an early order you understand; reopen the guide when a new milestone changes the normal loop.

Common mistakes and how to fix them

Friends chose different rulesets.

Check faction and ruleset together before character creation; switching is not a free ongoing toggle.

A race recommendation is illegal for the chosen faction.

Filter the matrix by both faction and class; keep the two Skyborne variants separate.

A max-level ranking is treated as an early leveling plan.

Use the leveling scope and the talent order for the character's actual level.

A stronger-looking item is equipped without reading it.

Check weapon compatibility and attributes, then compare the next normal pull rather than its quality color alone.

Common questions

Do I need a separate Forever subscription?

The official starter guide includes Forever with an active WoW subscription or Game Time. Skyborne access is a separate upgrade choice.

Should a new player choose Normal?

Normal is the official suggested starting place when uncertain. Choose PvP or roleplay variants deliberately and coordinate with friends.

Does an S-tier class guarantee an easy character?

No. Our letters describe the stated task. A pet, forms, totems or a new role can still add decisions to learn.

Can I change individual interface settings after choosing Classic or Enhanced?

Yes. The preset is a starting presentation; individual settings remain adjustable in Options. It is separate from the chosen ruleset.

Does a class with three roles use one universal build?

No. Treat tanking, healing and damage as separate plans with their own priorities. Use the comparison to choose a job, then inspect its talents.

Why does a level 20 plan show 11 points?

The retained standard export grants points from level 10 onward. This example excludes the Legacy Talented perk, which the standard planner does not model.

What should I check when friends cannot form the intended group?

Check both faction and ruleset. The documented normal grouping boundary requires a match on both; a language preference or visual preset does not replace either.
